Wildflower Education Principles
Every child deserves the opportunity to flourish
Just as every wildflower grows at its own pace and flourishes in the right environment, children thrive when education recognises their individual strengths, needs and interests.
Wildflower Education provides bespoke one-to-one education for primary-aged children in Bath and the surrounding area who need something different from a traditional classroom environment.
I support children who may have SEND, anxiety, SEMH needs, difficulties attending or engaging with school, or who simply learn best with a more individual approach. A diagnosis isn't necessary — what matters is understanding the child and what they need to access learning successfully.
Education built around your child
There is no standard Wildflower programme.
Every child's provision begins with getting to know them: their strengths, interests, current learning, additional needs and what may be making education difficult.
From there, I create an individual programme with clear and achievable goals. Learning can draw on the primary curriculum while being adapted to suit the child's starting point, pace and needs.
For one child, that might mean rebuilding confidence with reading and writing. For another, it could involve developing maths through practical activities, exploring science outdoors or using a particular interest to reconnect them with learning.
Academic progress matters, but it isn't the only measure of success. Depending on the child, we may also work towards greater confidence, independence, engagement, emotional regulation and a more positive relationship with learning.
Learning beyond the classroom
Learning doesn't have to happen sitting at a desk.
Alongside more traditional teaching, sessions can include creative projects, practical activities, outdoor learning and real-world experiences.
Where appropriate, learning can also take place in the community. A museum visit might bring history to life, a trip to the theatre could inspire English work, or a nature walk might become the starting point for science, maths, art and writing.
These experiences aren't simply days out. They are thoughtfully planned opportunities to help children apply their learning, develop confidence and experience education in a different way.
Relationship first
For children who have found education difficult, learning cannot always be the first priority.
Sometimes the starting point is simply feeling safe with a new adult, being listened to and experiencing success without fear of getting something wrong.
I take time to build a positive relationship with each child and create an environment where they feel understood and able to learn. Expectations can then grow gradually as confidence and trust develop.
Working together
Parents and carers know their children best, so communication is an important part of Wildflower Education.
I'll work with you to understand what your child needs, agree appropriate goals and keep you informed about their progress.
Where appropriate, and with the necessary arrangements and permissions in place, I can also work alongside schools and other professionals involved in your child's education so that everyone is working towards consistent outcomes.
I don't believe children should have to adapt to education. I believe education should adapt to the child.
